Trustee of Cemeteries Minutes 04/27/2013

Board of Cemetery Trustees

DATE: ~April 27, 2013 5:15 p.m.
LOCATION: ~~Greenvale Cemetery

PRESENT: ~Gil Bliss, Margo Charig Bliss, Jan Moller, Merrill Villmore, sexton

1.      The board officially opened the cemetery for the season. Trustee Gil Bliss will contact Jarvis Adams IV about getting the water turned on.

2.      The board located and marked the sites of five upcoming burials, and met with Steve Carson of Hillsborough, who serves the cemetery’s excavation needs.

3.      The board sold a double lot and accepted a deposit for corner stones from a Greenfield resident.

4.      Trustees Jan Moller and Margo Charig Bliss and Sexton Merrill Villmore walked the proposed buffer zone between the cemetery and the proposed town gravel removal operation on the site west of the cemetery. Mr. Villmore marked 50- and 100-foot buffers (measured from the granite post markers along the edge of the cemetery) and determined the area is populated with many hemlocks that provide good buffer between the two functions. There are several areas that are sparse where additional plantings could bolster the buffer. The trustees determined that a 100-foot buffer would provide a reasonable barrier along all parts of the boundary. Ms. Charig Bliss will resume discussions with the Board of Selectmen and the Highway Department toward an accord on the buffer zone and activities on the gravel operation side that would assure maintenance of the sanctity and dignity of the cemetery.

5.      The board noted among the cemetery needs for the season, the repair of the pump house shed, the general clean-up of winter debris and the completion of painting the electric board.

6.      Meerting was adjourned at 6:10 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Margo Charig Bliss
